Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
Magnolia Psychiatric Services now offers Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). With several years of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and specialized training in KAP from PRATI, I am excited to provide this innovative and effective treatment option. This addition enhances our ability to support individuals struggling with various mental health conditions, offering new avenues for healing and well-being.
What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy?
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines the use of ketamine, a medication, with therapy sessions to treat mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more. Ketamine can quickly help reduce symptoms, making therapy more effective.
What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a medication traditionally used as an anesthetic. It works by modulating the neurotransmitter glutamate, which plays a key role in mood regulation and neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to adapt and form new connections.

Routes of Administration:
Ketamine can be given in different ways, such as through an injection (intramuscular), in the veins (intravenously), or a dissolvable tablet under the tongue (sublingual). It works fast, often showing effects within hours, which is much quicker than most traditional antidepressants that can take weeks to start working.
What We Offer
1
Initial Consultation
We will discuss your needs and determine if ketamine therapy is right for you through a thorough assessment of your mental health.
2
Treatment Plan
Based on the assessment, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
3
Dosing Sessions
-
Individual KAP Sessions: These sessions use the sublingual version of the ketamine, self-administered in the presence of the therapist, either in person or via Telehealth in Washington state, Colorado, or Maryland.
-
Group KAP Sessions: Offered within the state of Maryland, providing support and shared experiences. Group sessions will have the option of sublingual or intramuscular administration of ketamine.
Integration
Integration follows dosing sessions and are essential for processing and incorporating the insights gained during ketamine therapy. These sessions involve discussing and reflecting on the experiences during dosing, which helps make meaningful changes and improvements in mental health. Integration enhances and prolongs the therapeutic effects of ketamine therapy.
4
Collaboration with Therapists
Clients who choose KAP need to have an established therapist with whom we can collaborate, as integration sessions are a key part of the KAP process. If you don't have an established therapist, we will guide you in securing one.
